Dave Campbell was a long time club member that we lost in 2024. One of his request was in lieu of flowers people donate to the Flatland Fly Fishers. The club felt that a good way to use some of those funds and honor Dave was to do an educational program to help others learn. Dave was a great man that enjoyed fly fishing and helping others.
Euro Nymphing is a fly fishing technique that is very popular and hard to get in person education on around Wichita. We are bringing in Steve Ruiz from J.D. Adams & Co. Fly Fishing Outfitters in Oklahoma City to do the program. He is a guide and does trips both freshwater and saltwater. He does a lot of educational programs. He has even been involved in helping a young lady on the USA Women’s Fly Fishing Team improve her euro nymphing.
You can bring food and drink into the room we are doing this event. We are not planning on having a break long enough to go to lunch.

About Steve
The American Sportsman, hosted by Curt Gowdy, was a long-running TV series that aired on ABC every Sunday afternoon. Stephen Ruiz watched every episode, especially those that featured fly fishing. Ruiz saved his money and purchased his first fly fishing outfit – a cheap fly rod and reel combo – when he was 13 years old. Fly fishing for warm water species in farm ponds, creeks, rivers, and lakes in southeast Oklahoma became his passion.
However, 15 years ago Ruiz caught his first trout on the Uncompahgre river near Ridgway, Colorado and was hooked (literally) by the technical complexity of fly fishing for trout. Since then, Ruiz has immersed himself in the quest to demystify the art and craft of fly fishing.
Ruiz has competed, according to FIPS/Mouche rules, in several fly fishing competitions and has recently coached one of the contestants on the USA Women’s Fly Fishing Team.
He is a graduate of the Sweetwater Guide School and makes his home in Edmond, Oklahoma with his wife, Sarah, his “bonus daughter,” Parker, and his two pups, Buddy and Rose.
