Dave Campbell was a long time club member that we lost in 2024. One of his request was in lieu of flowers people donate to the Flatland Fly Fishers. The club felt that a good way to use some of those funds and honor Dave was to do an educational program to help others learn. Dave was a great man that enjoyed fly fishing and helping others.
One fly fishing opportunity that is found basically every where is fly fishing for carp. Living in Kansas most of our club members spend most of their time warm water fly fishing, but people who do not fly fishing think it is just for trout. We decided to bring someone in to talk about a warm water species that is found in almost all our local waters. A species that can be challenging to catch, but also one that gets large and is very powerful once you have one hooked. Come join us for a great education presentation and gain some knowledge on how to hookup with a carp on a fly rod… then hold on and try not smiling to big.

About Larry
Larry Dostal had a passion for fishing instilled in him since childhood. Fishing the Midwest for over 30 years, Larry has become an accomplished multi-species angler and die-hard fly fishing enthusiast. In recent years, Larry has helped pioneer the booming carp fly fishing movement in Nebraska, developing innovative fly patterns and a few unorthodox techniques along the way. As a fly fishing fanatic, tournament organizer, and entertaining speaker, he enjoys sharing his experiences and introducing aspiring anglers to his style of fly fishing!
Larry specializes in sight fishing for Common and Grass Carp, and these trophy sport fish are more than abundant across the Midwest. Carp thrive in the fertile rivers, sand pits, urban channels, city ponds, and prairie reservoirs of the heartland. Sight fishing for carp is one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences you can have with a fly rod, and it is my pleasure to share it with you!
My presentations cover sight fishing for Common Carp & Grass carp, and the advanced techniques of presenting your flies to these golden trophies.
